Lance Armstrong steps down as head of Livestrong

Lance Armstrong said Wednesday he is stepping down as chairman of his Livestrong cancer-fighting charity so the group can focus on its mission instead of its founder’s problems.

This came after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency released a report detailing allegations of doping by Armstrong and his teams when he won the Tour de France seven consecutive times from 1999 to 2005. 

Adidas Shackle Shoe

I'm sure you have heard about the "Shackle" Adidas shoes that seem to have slavery overtones. Adidas has stopped production of this shoes.

Designed by Jeremy Scott, the JS Roundhouse Mid shoe was originally set to be released in August at the price of $350, the style was initially introduced with the social media marketing slogan, “Got a sneaker game so hot you lock your kicks to your ankles?”


Though the style was originally dubbed the “Handcuff,” it was quickly referred to as the ‘shackle shoe.’

The shoes have created such a stir that Rev Jesse Jackson has spoken out against them saying Adidas has "attempted to commercialize and make popular more than 200 years of human degradation, where blacks were considered three-fifths human by our Constitution is offensive, appalling and insensitive. Removing the chains from our ankles and placing them on our shoes is no progress"

Adidas sued over 'barefoot' running shoe claims

Reuters is reporting that a New York man has sued a unit of Adidas AG, claiming he was duped about the potential fitness benefits of a line of shoes designed to mimic the effect of running barefoot.

In a class action lawsuit filed in federal court in Brooklyn on Friday, plaintiff Joseph Rocco said the $90 pair of adiPure shoes he purchased did not deliver the increased training efficiency and decreased risk of injury promised in advertisements.

Barefoot Lawyers

I was reading an article on The Vancouver Sun about barefoot lawyers in India, the story isn't about lawyers running barefoot but about poor villagers that are trained as paralegals to help their fellow countrymen regain their farmland.

The article is worth a read, here's a little preview below:

It was a deal struck almost 40 years ago by a poor, illiterate Indian farmer, driven by desperation after a drought wiped out his crops and left his family close to starvation.
The agreement: Four hectares of land, the size of four soccer fieldss, for a mere 10 kg of sorghum.

“My father-in-law pawned the land for food,” said Kowasalya Thati, lifting the hem of her grey sari and stepping into the muddy field of rice paddy in Kottasuraream village in the southern region of Andhra Pradesh.

There's been a lot of talk recently about Bounties in the NFL, the saints got a lot of press recently when the story broke that they had rewards for injuring players.

Cris Carter just admitted that he put bounties on other players, it was a regular thing in the NFL, but for a different reason. The audio is below.

James Cameron Completes Deep Sea Challenge

Sometimes mainstream media frustrates me, today I flipped to CNN hoping to catch some coverage of James Cameron's decent to the ocean floor...but instead they were talking politics!

James Cameron's deep sea challenge took him to the deepest part of the ocean called Mariana Trench which is about 500 km's southwest of Guam.

It only took Cameron 70mins to drop to the ocean floor in his vertical torpedo sub. Cameron spent hours hovering over the desert-like seafloor and gliding along its cliff walls, the whole time collecting samples and video.

The videos should be amazing to see, I'm guessing they will be in Imax...lol

Question: Cameron has money to throw away, if you had more money then you could spend what crazy thing would you do?

Kenya Barefoot Running

I was just reading a Question and Answer story in the National Post about runners in Kenya. It's worth a read, you can follow the link in The National Post story here.

One of the possible myths about runners in Kenya is that they all believe in barefoot running, the question is answered below.

Q: Do you believe in the barefoot running technique?
A: No. In fact, after their first races, the ones where they run without shoes because they have no possibility to buy them, whenever they have the possibility of a contract with a shoe company, they immediately start running with shoes.

Seoul Twin Towers

Have you seen the planned Seoul Korea skyscrapers?

I saw the photo for the first time this morning and my first feeling was that it wasn't right!
The plan is for two towers side by side with a cloud shaped bridge joining the two buildings, this cloud bridge looks alot like the explosion before the World Trade Center Towers fell.

Whats your feeling on these planned towers?
