Fila Skele-Toes Banned

skele-toes banned
I was reading on Birthdayshoes.com today about Fila Skele-toes being up before the School board to be banned in a Louisiana school district, Vermilion Parish.

The decision should be out soon, this reminds me a lot of the U.S Military banning Vibram Five Fingers, Why this attack on toe shoes?

I guess the argument to have the shoes banned was brought up as a safety issue. What are people afraid of? If you look at a pair of flats that females wear, they offer no more protection for your feet. If they are afraid of a milk spills and kids slipping and falling, I'd say a pair of toe shoes will hold up better then any hard sole shoe.

The only issue I can think of with toe shoes that are worn barefoot would be the smell.... We are talking about grade schoolers, there are a lot of smells...lol

What do you think? Should school ban barefoot shoes?

Fila Skeletoes vs Vibram Five Fingers

So Whats better? The Fila Skeletoes or Vibram Five Fingers?

The Skele-Toes  reminds me of water shoes, which they work great as. The Vibram Five Fingers were also called water shoes and really the first ones were being made for sailing.

I'm not trying to dog the Skele-toes' look — they are a quality shoe that is well-made of strong materials. The Skeletoes were not really made for sport more for sliding on after, but they have a very sporty look. VFFs are also very sporty, Speeds and KSO Treks are very sporty and cool looking.

A big bonus with the Skele-toes is that they can be had for $50-$60 — and they are coming out with kid's sizes. Being $50 - $60 they are almost half price besides a pair of VFF's. The Skele-Toes are worth considering. On the other hand, if you want the Cadillac of toe shoes, I think you'll be happier spending the extra money and getting a pair of VFFs.

Competition is great in any area, so I am happy to see a little competition in the toe shoe market, but I don't think Vibram is too worried, but they are suing mind you..

Fila Skeletoes Review

The Fila Skeletoes are Fila's barefoot walking shoe. They are made for men, women and children. Fila has designed them to be used in such activities as Swimming, boating, walking and light actitiy.

The Fila Skeletoes are a great shoe, but do they remind you of anything?

Five Fingers Look Alike?

Though they look similar to Vibram Five Fingers,  Fila does not see this product as a direct competitor to the Five Fingers. But Vibram does see them as a competitor as they are sueing over it Fila's design.

The skeletoes are not designed for running, which is one of the primary uses of the Five Fingers. Instead they are intended to be more of a shoe to be worn after you run or after you are done your workout you can slip on your Skeletoes, jump in the shower then head home.

Men, Women and Kids!
The Fila Skeletoes are barefoot shoes targeted to men and women and Fila is even went on step farther then Vibram and are making this product in kids sizes. Even kids need healthy shoe choices. They are certainly priced right at $59 for Men and Women and $49 for kids.

What are they made from?

The Skeletoes are made from a four way stretch, two ply nylon that is pretty comfortable. They have a bungee cord much like the VFF's Sprints and a velcro strap.

There are 2 things that the Skeletoes differ from Five Fingers:
  • The bottom sole of the Skeletoes does not wrap up around the toes like VFF's
  • Skeletoes have the last 2 toes in one pocket.

The Skeletoes are not meant to be worn for runnng and are not as high end as a pair of Vibram Five Fingers.
They are a great casual shoe that are cheaper then the VFF's
