The Perfect Runner

The Perfect Runner:
The Perfect Runner, which chronicles the modern-day love of distance running by tracking our evolutionary past as runners, airs Thursday on The Nature of Things.

In 45 minutes, viewers travel from the highlands of Ethiopia, home of the world’s fastest distance runners, to a remote nook of Siberia, where running is a way of life for nomadic reindeer herders, to the Alberta town of Grande Cache, home of one of the world’s toughest ultra-marathons. Humans, we learn, are nature’s best endurance runners. We can outrun any other living thing if given enough time to exhaust the thing we’re chasing.

Watch it: Airs Thursday, March 15, on CBC’s The Nature of Things at 8 p.m.
